Newbury Park High School will be hosting its 8th annual Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 14, 2015 starting at 8:30 a.m.
This is a regional competition for school bands who come from all over the southland to showcase their talents in various divisions, including Jazz Combo, Middle School and High School Big Bands. Each group will perform a 30 minute set for a panel of judges and then receive written and recorded feedback as well as post-peformance clinic with one of the judges. Some of the outstanding jazz peformers that are identified by the judges during the day will receive either a one-week or two-week scholarship to the Idyllwild Arts Summer Jazz Workshop courtesy of Jeff Tower and the Idyllwild Arts Academy.
The highlight of the day will be a noon concert presented by the Aaron Serfaty Trio, featuring pianist Otmaro Ruiz and bassist Darek Oles.

John Daversa's Small Band!
The John Daversa Small Band is a powerhouse ensemble that transitions with ease from sections of incredible sensitivity to vignettes of intensity rivaling that of the Big Band, featuring bandmates Katisse Buckingham, Robby Marshall, Tommy King, Jerry Watts, and Gene Coye, this is going to a great show and a fantastic opening to an amazing weekend of jazz!
