The Concert Band program is the foundation of the entire band program curriculum. There are two groups that make up the Concert Band program: Wind Ensemble and Concert Band.
Wind Ensemble/Wind Ensemble (Honors) – The Wind Ensemble is the main performing ensemble in the NPHS Band program. This class meets during 3rd period (10:25-12:05 on even days). It is an advanced level concert group whose performances include being the pep band at all NPHS Home Football Games, performing 3 concerts per year in the NPHS Performing Arts Center, traveling to local, regional, and even national Concert Band Festivals, and other events as they come up. Being part of this class will require participate in rehearsals and performances that happen outside of the normal class period. Advanced students can audition to be in the Honors section of Wind Ensemble each year before the school year starts.
Concert Band – This class is for all new members to the NPHS Band Program. The focus of this class is to develop advanced level ensemble skills and individual musicianship to prepare for moving into either Wind Ensemble or Wind Ensemble Honors. This class meets during 1st period (8:30-10:10 on odd days). This is an active performing ensemble and students in Concert Band can expect rehearsal and performance requirements outside of the normal class time (all home football games, winter and spring concerts, concert band festivals, the All District Band Festival, etc.)
Students who wish to participate in any of the other band program ensembles (Marching Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble) must be enrolled in either Concert Band or Wind Ensemble as a prerequisite.
